It began much like a dream . . . the colors swirling and serene . . . Though years had passed
. . . and the face had changed, . . . There was something inside, so much the same. I heard her giggle,
although far away. She ran nearby . . . but wouldn't stay. I glimpsed her smile . . . it was still there
to see. a younger, but familiar me. I heard my voice asking, . . . "Don't go away." But it seems
that hide and seek's the only game she'll play. One moment there . . . and then she's gone leaving behind
her fragrant song. How did this happen? What day and time, allowed her tiny hand to slip from mine? Is that when
it happened? When it came to pass that I was too grown up to let childhood last? When did the eyes of this woman
become too blind to see the child that I left behind? What time did it happen? What day did she stray . . . taking
the innocent sounds of childhood so very far away. Without that sweetness deep inside, a chill had managed to abide. Something
was missing . . . something soft, My soul felt empty . . . What had my heart lost? My hand reached
out and it did grasp her soft, small finger-tips as she ran passed. . . My heart filled with hope, as memories gathered.
It was not too late . . . She was not gone forever. This woman who'd become so blind, regained the child she'd left
behind.
